About the Job :
Our client, one of the world's largest gold mining companies with the strongest production growth profile among all major gold companies, is a Canadian based company which employs more than 9,000 people worldwide. Our client is currently seeking a Senior Underground Mine Engineer.
THE POSITION:
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the incumbent will supervise underground engineering activities at our client’s underground gold mining and will interact with all department heads, all engineering staff, consultants, and other company personnel, as required and will be responsible for various technical duties including reviewing completed work, providing direction, assigning tasks, monitoring progress, and assessing performance. Other responsibilities will include, but not be limited to the following:
Providing clarity and focus for the engineering group to help achieve and surpass the mine’s safety and production targets and to add value to the operation and ensuring regulatory and inter-company procedural compliance.
Building and motivating a team that works effectively and efficiently with other departments
Developing the people in the engineering group through performance review, training, guidance, and mentoring to reach their maximum potential.
Generating competent, workable, and safe mine designs and plans and measuring performance and effectiveness of existing designs and systems.
Promoting innovation and continuous improvement in safety by reviewing existing engineering designs and new designs on a consistent basis.
Promoting and adhering to Company environmental and sustainability policies.
Completing and reviewing mine planning and mine design to increase value to operation.
Optimizing grade control and minimize dilution through mine designs and mine plans.
Providing guidance to operating departments to maximize production, planning their activities, and accurately measuring key mining parameters.
Maintaining, reporting, and monitoring of production statistics and performance to ensure the property’s goals and objectives are achieved.
Participating in strategic planning at the senior management level and providing guidance on areas to increase value and optimize use of resources.
The role is based at our client’s gold mine outside of Timmins which offers excellent medical facilities as well as primary and secondary schools. The natural environment of beautiful lakes and forests lead to great recreational fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking.

Profile of Ideal Candidate :
THE CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or the equivalent engineering degree along with a minimum of five to seven years of mine operation and engineering experience with at least five of that being in a leadership role in an underground narrow vein gold mine environment. The incumbent must have strong communication and people skills and a demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and manage an engineering team. Incumbent must also demonstrate the ability to effectively establish priorities and accordingly delegate work to engineering staff and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining. This position interacts with the following external contacts: Federal, provincial, and municipal government, Mining and professional associations, Consultants, contractors, and suppliers, Ontario Ministry of Labour
