Our client, one of the world's largest gold mining companies with the strongest production growth profile among all major gold companies, is a Canadian based company which employs more than 9,000 people worldwide. Our client is currently seeking a Ventilation Technician.
THE POSITION
Reporting to the Chief Engineer, the primary responsibilities for the Senior Open Pit Engineer are to execute the design and development of mine facilities, equipment and systems and the short and medium-term planning process and to contribute to long-range planning and economic evaluations to ensure optimization of resources for our clientˇ¦s mining operation outside Timmins, Ontario. Additionally, the incumbent will provide technical guidance in the extraction of ore and direction for the engineering team. Other responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to the following:
Ensuring that direct reports and respective work areas are in compliance with all of the company Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Observing mining operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production records and assisting in accident and incident investigations and to ensure that recommendations are implemented by agreed upon dates.
Ensuring that all designs and plans are completed in accordance with sound engineering practice, Ministry of Labour act and regulations, company policies and procedures and incorporate safety review into the design phase.
Overseeing preliminary surveys and studies of ore and mineral deposits to assess the economic and environmental feasibility of potential mining operations.
Reviewing pit and phase designs (including haulage roads) and analyzing waste dump design and sequencing.
Coordinating the input of rock mechanics, ventilation, and survey into designs.
Overseeing production scheduling (life-of-mine, long range and short range).
Coordinating preparation of monthly forecasts and preparation of annual budgets.
Ensuring that all design changes include scheduling updates to facilitate rolling plan preparation
Leading the recruitment and selection of engineering employees.
Providing employees with clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required.
Ensuring that training is provided in accordance with the future needs of direct reports and engineering staff.
Conducting performance reviews and providing feedback to direct reports including Rock Mechanics, Long Term Planners, Mine Planners, and Engineers in Training
The role is based at our clientˇ¦s gold mine outside of Timmins which offers excellent medical facilities as well as primary and secondary schools. The natural environment of beautiful lakes and forests lead to great recreational fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking.

Profile of Ideal Candidate :
THE CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in Mining Engineering or the equivalent with a minimum of five to eight years of experience with open pit operating and design experience, with at least three of those years in a leadership capacity. The incumbent must be registered or must be eligible for registration as a professional engineer in Ontario. Candidates must have strong communication and people skills and a demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and manage an engineering team. Incumbent must also demonstrate the ability to effectively establish priorities and accordingly delegate work to engineering staff and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining.
