Our client, one of the world's largest gold mining companies with the strongest production growth profile among all major gold companies, is a Canadian based company which employs more than 9,000 people worldwide. Our client is currently seeking a Senior Metallurgist.
The Job
Reporting to the Mill Superintendent the primary responsibilities for the Senior Metallurgist will be to manage the inspection and analysis of incoming ore, the extraction process, and the sampling of extracted metals and to provide leadership to the metallurgical team while ensuring that production schedules and environmental targets are met. Other responsibilities for this position will include, but not be limited to the following:
Providing advice to the metallurgical team on separating metals from ores, refining, alloying, heat-treating, and mechanically processing the extracted metal.
Conducting experiments to find new or improved extractive procedures.
Implementing strategies to maximize production at minimum reagent and operating costs.
Monitoring grinding mill liner wear and schedule target replacement dates.
Observing production and independent circuit performance and implementing changes to correct unsatisfactory performance.
Providing advice to ensure the smooth running of the effluent treatment plant.
Ensuring that the effluent treatment discharge is in compliance with the Ministry of Environment limits.
Participating in the preparation of new project budgets.
Preparing the Authorization for Expenditure for new projects.
Assisting in the hiring of metallurgical employees.
Providing employees with clear work objectives and expectations of the performance levels required.
Ensuring that direct reports and respective work areas are in compliance with all of company and Health and Safety policies and the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
Ensuring that direct reports have the necessary training, skills, knowledge, and tools to do their jobs safely.
Observing mining operations to detect violation of safety regulations and compile safety and production records.
Assisting in accident and incident investigations and ensuring that recommendations are implemented by agreed upon dates.
The role is based at our client’s gold mine outside of Timmins which offers excellent medical facilities as well as primary and secondary schools. The natural environment of beautiful lakes and forests lead to great recreational fishing, hunting, camping, and hiking.

Profile of Ideal Candidate :
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering and a professional designation or certification in related area in addition to five to eight years of experience ore processing with a minimum of three years experience in a supervisory role. Candidates must have strong communication and people skills and a demonstrated ability to build, motivate, and manage an engineering team. Incumbent must also demonstrate the ability to effectively establish priorities and accordingly delegate work to engineering staff and have a good understanding of key business drivers for gold mining.
