About the Job :
Our client, one of the world's largest gold mining companies with the strongest production growth profile among all major gold companies, is a Canadian based company which employs more than 9,000 people worldwide. Our client is currently seeking a Metallurgical Technician.
THE POSITION:
Working out of our client’s mine site in northern Ontario and reporting to the Senior Metallurgist, the successful candidate will be responsible for activities aimed at ensuring optimal metallurgical performance of the crushing, screening, metallurgical and effluent treatment plants, including sampling, test work, and project preparation, planning and execution.
• Examines and tests metal samples to determine their physical properties, under direction
• Conducts routine microscopic examinations of metals and alloys to determine their crystal structure, porosity, homogeneity, and other characteristics.
• Examines metal and alloy samples to detect internal fractures, impurities, and similar defects in metals.
• Tests samples in to determine strength, hardness, elasticity, toughness, or other properties of metal.
This mine site is a fly-in, fly-out commuter operation on a 14 x 14 day schedule (14 days on and 14 days off with 12 hour days at site). There is a modern camp, kitchen and recreation centre available to employees. The recreation centre offers a full size gymnasium, weight room and saunas. Profile of Ideal Candidate :
THE CANDIDATE:
The incumbent must have a degree or technical diploma in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy or Chemical Engineering with at least 2 years plant experience, preferably in a gold mining environment. Basic computer skills and familiarity with MS Office software, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint are required. A strong focus on safety as well as excellent written and verbal communications skills, are essential to this position. The individual must be results driven, have a high level of self-motivation, and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
