The RoleThe Role1 -To assess Risk Quality and Quantum, for Property Damage and Business Interruption in order to assist Underwriters in Power Generation/Boiler & Machinery Risk Selection. This will generally be prior to attachment or at renewal, following losses or acquisitions. This may involve Desk Reviews or surveys. 2 -To carry out Risk Engineering Surveys of Power facilities worldwide, furnishing underwriters and/or the market with Risk Engineering Reports/feedback, and the Assured with Risk Improvement Recommendations. 3 -To provide technical input and interpretation into Claims Department 4 -To advise underwriters on Engineering Risk Issues. 5 -To obtain and/or develop Risk Engineering Methods as appropriate. 6 -To consult and liaise with other underwriters’ engineers on Risk Engineering issues. Education / specialism: Engineering Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering Min. years experience: 7 years |
RequirementsRequirementsReporting Monthly review of survey planning/workload to underwriters and LETL. [Technical Skills (E) = Essential, (D) = Desirable] Working towards or at Chartered status (C.Eng) of recognized engineering institution (IMechE, IEEE or similar) (E) Engineering Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, or related subject. (E) Knowledge of Main Power generation equipment:- steam boilers & turbines/gas turbines/transformers etc(E) Knowledge of Power Generation Economics (D) Relevant Experience (at least 7) in one/more of Operations/commissioning with Design/Safety/Maintenance etc. in relevant industry(E) Experience in one or more Risk, Reliability & Safety Engineering methodologies, eg, HazOp, HazAn, Consequence Analysis, Root-Cause Analysis, FMECA. (D) Some Insurance knowledge desirable but not essential, eg, estimated maximum loss concepts and analysis (D) Computer Literate (Word Processing, Spreadsheets, Databases, Application Programs) (E) Ability to promptly research a technical issue, using technical references/contacts (E) Behavioural Skills (e.g. communication skills) Effective writing of concise engineering reports (E) Communication at all levels, with technical and non-technical people. (E) Language skills desirable (e.g. French, Spanish, German, Russian). (D) Tact in dealing with clients, officials, brokers etc. in many different cultures (Europe, Former Soviet Union, Middle East, Africa, Latin America, Indian subcontinent, Far East, Australasia etc.). (E) Availability to travel, sometimes at short notice. (E) |
